The Livestock, Bulk and Rural Carriers Association (LBRCA) has welcomed confirmation that a contractor has been appointed to deliver a new crossing at Mitchells Causeway on the Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass but says freight operators must continue to be supported while the closure remains in place.
The Australian Government has confirmed that from 1 April to 30 June 2026, the fuel excise will be halved and the Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge (RUC) reduced to zero. These measures are expected to deliver immediate financial relief, particularly for operators managing ongoing cash flow pressures in a high-cost environment.
LBRCA President Wade Lewis last week participated in the NSW Rural and Regional Diesel Fuel Security Roundtable, where he provided a clear and practical assessment of the real issue facing our industry — not supply, but the distribution of diesel into regional NSW.
