Barney Hayes

2015

Barney Hayes is widely recognised as one of the transport industry’s most effective advocates, combining strong leadership with a practical, solutions-focused approach to industry representation. As a former President of the LBRCA, Barney played a significant role in guiding the Association through periods of growth and change while building strong relationships with government, industry stakeholders and transport operators. His reputation was built not on highlighting problems, but on presenting workable solutions that delivered meaningful outcomes for the industry.

Among his many achievements, Barney was instrumental in the development of the Livestock Loading Scheme, a landmark initiative that improved livestock transport safety, reduced rollover risks and provided greater certainty for operators and producers alike. He also played a key role in securing the removal of stamp duty on new trailers for New South Wales operators, delivering substantial financial benefits to transport businesses across the state. Respected for his willingness to support others, mentor future leaders and advocate for practical reform, Barney’s contribution has helped create a stronger, safer and more progressive transport industry.

His Life Membership recognises a legacy of leadership, innovation and service that continues to benefit operators throughout Australia.
