Sophie Reid is a highly respected heavy vehicle operator whose determination, professionalism and commitment to safety have made her a standout figure within the Australian transport industry. Knowing from a young age that truck driving was the career she wanted to pursue, Sophie entered the industry in 2016 through Divall’s Earthmoving and Bulk Haulage, where she received the training and support necessary to develop into a highly skilled operator. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong understanding of the responsibilities associated with heavy vehicle operation, including fatigue management, load restraint, documentation, maintenance reporting and workplace safety. Her vigilance and proactive approach were highlighted in 2019 when she identified and reported a serious workplace hazard at a concrete yard, helping prevent a potential injury through timely intervention and adherence to WHS processes.
As a young woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Sophie has overcome challenges and misconceptions through hard work, resilience and a positive attitude. She is passionate about encouraging more women to consider careers in transport and civil construction and has actively promoted the industry through local school career events. Her contribution extends beyond transport through her involvement with Concrete4Goulburn’s breast cancer fundraising initiative, where she became well known as the driver of the company’s pink concrete agitator truck. Recognised by employers, customers and peers as hardworking, professional and inspiring, Sophie continues to champion safety, mentoring and career development while pursuing her ambition of one day operating road trains across Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
